Biographical / Historical
Solon Maxley Chapman (1834-1928) was born in Connecticut and came to California sometime
before 1862. He was affiliated with the Bank of Napa from 1890 to 1920 and was its president
for many years.
Scope and Contents
A collection of approximately 600 items from 1859 to 1928; it consists of 85 diaries,
letters, manuscripts, documents, and 2 account books. The material reflects the day-to-day
life of a bank president and businessman in Napa, California. The collection also includes
original and typewritten copies of a memoir entitled, Reminiscences. Much of the
correspondence is related to Chapman's business activities, although there is also some
personal correspondence. The original gift included boxes 1-3 and the addenda comprised
boxes 4-6.

finding aid derived from a legacy in-house summary report.
