    Abstract: This collection contains a wide variety of materials related to the Gay Games I and II (San Francisco) and III (Vancouver); tennis at the Gay Games; the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance, the Gay Tennis Federation of San Francisco (GTF) and its founder Leslie Hilton Balmain; the Community Softball League (CSL) and gay softball more generally. There are also a small amount of materials related to gay sports in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Atlas, the first gay savings and loan.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    This collection contains a wide variety of materials related to the Gay Games I and II (San Francisco) and III (Vancouver); tennis at the Gay Games; the Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance, the Gay Tennis Federation of San Francisco (GTF) and its founder Leslie Hilton Balmain; the Community Softball League (CSL) and gay softball more generally. There are also a small amount of materials related to gay sports in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Atlas, the first gay savings and loan. Papers from the Gay Games and the GTF include certificates and awards; committee meeting materials; materials related to equipment, uniforms, security and match results; entry forms; ephemera; information handbooks; media relations materials; newsletters; news clippings; and programs. Materials related to CSL include organizational records; correspondence; the "Data Boy" newsletter; ephemera from bars and restaurants that held fundraisers and sponsored teams; meeting minutes; programs and ephemera from gay softball games and world series; rosters, score books and statistic sheets. Most of the slides and photographs are tennis-related, but some are from softball events and from tricycle races at the Mint, which sponsored a softball team. Carton 1 primarily contains materials related to the Gay Games and gay tennis. Carton 2 primarily contains materials related to the Community Softball League.
