Description
The materials are arranged in two series: Personal and Professional Records and Project Files. The project files consist of drawings and manuscript materials pertaining to specific projects. The Personal and Professional Records consist of materials about Stein and also include some exhibition materials.
Background
Achva Benzinberg Stein was born in Israel and came to the University of California Berkeley in 1965 to study landscape architecture and received her Bachelors degree. She then received a Master of Arts in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Stein taught and was the Director of the Landscape Architecture Program at the University of Southern California; a professor and department chair of the Landscape Architecture department at North Carolina State University; and the director and founder of the Graduate Program in Landscape Architecture at the City College of New York. Since 2014, Stein has been a Senior Lecturer at the College of Environmental Design at UC Berkeley, in addition to running her own practice. Stein has received two Fullbright awards- one in 1979 to study landscape design in India, and her second one in 2002 to study in Germany. She has received numerous teaching awards, and was named a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architecture in 2003.
