Description
The Costume Designers Guild Collection spans the years 1936-2005 (bulk 1942-1976) and encompasses less than 1 linear foot of manuscripts and 754 artworks. The collection documents the work of Hollywood costume designers including Colleen Atwood, April Ferry, Bernard Johnson, Orry Kelly, Jean Louis, Moss Mabry, Patricia Norris, Adele Palmer, May Routh, Julie Weiss, Michael Wolfe, and Albert Wolsky.
Background
The Costume Designers Guild was formed in 1953 as an independent organization that negotiated separate contracts for its members who were either freelance designers or designers under contract to a studio. The Guild was formed exclusively for costume designers and in 1976, joined the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees as local 892.
