Lectures on surgery delivered in Jena by Johann Christian Stark, recorded in manuscript by J.B.C. (Johann Bapt. Carol.) Kottmann. "They begin with the history of surgery and move rapidly to discussing specific ailments and infections as well as remedies (with formulae). The second volume contains precise descriptions of tumors, congenital diseases, and gunshot wounds; almost all of these are discussed in he context of surgical remedies. The third volume contains discussions of the most frequently encountered operations; e.g., trepanning, amputations, and hernias. These sections comprise approximately 650 pages of text. The final section of 75 pages deals with broken bones.The student, Kottmann, completed his studies and eventually directed medical care for the city of Solothum."--Antiquarian bookseller's description, 2014.
