    Biographical / Historical

    Ann Allen Savoy (b. 1952) was born in Saint Louis, Missouri and raised in Richmond, Virginia. A musician, documentarian, and record producer, she is the author and compiler of the two-volume book Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People. After studying guitar and French throughout her early life, she married Cajun accordionist Marc Savoy in 1975 and moved to Eunice, Louisiana, where she became active in documenting and preserving the traditional Cajun and Creole music of Southwest Louisiana. With her husband Marc Savoy, her children Joel and Wilson Savoy, the fiddler Michael Doucet, and the Magnolia Sisters, she has toured widely and recorded several albums for Arhoolie Records, Vanguard Records, and Rounder Records.

    Scope and Contents

    Audio interviews with Louisiana musicians conducted by Ann Savoy over a period of 45 years. The interviews were originally presented in Savoy's book Cajun Music: A Reflection of a People Volumes 1 and 2. The interviewees include significant figures in the history of Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco music in Louisiana. Interview topics include upbringing, family, musical repertoire, and musicianship.
