The Imperial Japanese Navy was the navy of the Empire of Japan from 1868 to 1945, when it was dissolved following Japan's surrender in World War II. The Iwate was an armored cruiser built for the Imperial Japanese Navy in the late 1890s. It participated in naval battles during the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905. Later, the ship served as a cruiser and carried naval officers for long-distance oceanic training.
