Scope and content:

The collection consists of the business papers (including some account books and letter books) of Frederick Oliver and Hammond Gowen related to mines and mineral resources in Eastern Township of QuƩbec, Canada, including the Megantic Mining Company and the Quebec & St. Francis Mining & Exploring Company. The collection also contains a journal by an unknown author of a trip across New York in 1833.

Biographical / historical:

Frederick Oliver of QuƩbec, Canada, served as secretary and treasurer of the Megantic Mining Company, and together with his brother-in-law Hammond Gowen and others, was involved in various projects for developing the mines and mineral resources of the area.
