    Biographical / Historical

    Donald F. Lomas is a clinical social worker based in Southern California, who developed programs to help serve the communities of the greater Los Angeles area.

    Scope and Contents

    The Donald F. Lomas papers, 1985-2017, were created and collected by Lomas as part of his work with various social service agencies in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, and the San Gabriel Valley. These include documentation of the formation of the Back in Control Parenting Program that served thousands of families in the San Gabriel Valley from 1985 to 2005; Lomas' stay as consultant and later CEO with San Gabriel Children's Center documenting negotiations with LA County Department of Mental Health to help resuscitate that organization from its probationary status; Lomas's work in the 1990s with Pacific Clinics to incubate a new agency, D'Veal Family and Youth Services; work with Southern California Health and Rehabilitation Programs as they incubated and ultimately absorbed Wilshire Children's Services; creation and leadership of the Day Treatment Program for Young Children in Lancaster for the Children's' Bureau of Southern California; and documentation of the struggle to create a Department of Mental Health funded School Mental Health Program for Pasadena Unified School District.
