Biographical / Historical

John Casper Branner (1850-1922) was an American geologist and the second president of Stanford University from 1913 to 1915. His career also included scientific expeditions to Brazil, where he went as a geologist and botanist, U. S. government geological posts, academic positions, including that of professor of geology when Stanford University was established in 1885.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, seven volumes of diaries related to Branner's life and his work as a geologist in Brazil, autobiographical material, and an addenda of one letter and a 1920 to 1921 letter book.
