Abstract: The Wilma Ferrel
Collection consists of popular Hawaiian style music that is arranged for steel guitar.
Ferrel acquired and used the sheet music to take notes for introductory steel guitar
courses.

Biographical / Historical
Wilma Ferrel lived in Columbus, Ohio where she acquired this sheet music. Ferrel used both
the tablature and standard sheet music to learn the popular music of the time. At the
beginning of the 20th century Hawaiian style music grew in popularity in America. Around
this time Harry G. Stanley founded the Oahu Publishing Company. The Oahu Publishing Company
published popular Hawaiian style music. The company survived until a short time after
Stanley's passing in 1965. The Oahu Publishing Company was headquarted in Cleveland, Ohio
and distributed many of the sheet music pieces collected by Ferrel. Ferrel acquired and used
the sheet music to take notes for introductory steel guitar courses.
Scope and Contents
The Wilma Ferrel Collection consists of popular Hawaiian style music that is arranged for
steel guitar. Many of the pieces were published by the Oahu Publishing Company. The
collection is arranged in alphabetical order by title of the piece or series.
