    Biographical / Historical Notes

    R. Clinton Griffin was a former Marine and photographer who took a particular interest in collecting records on the historic cemeteries in San Diego County. Beginning in 2004 he volunteered as the USS Midway Museum’s official photographer, documenting the ship’s restoration and conversion to a museum after it was relocated from North Island to the Navy Pier. This collection gives details about the various cemetery sites, as well as records of some of the burials and ceremonies that took place at each individual cemetery, and numerous images of areas restored on the USS Midway.

    Scope and Content

    This collection contains burial records, baptism and confirmation records, and numerous photographs related to cemeteries from the late 1700s onward, as well as photographs of the USS Midway, compiled by Clinton Griffin in San Diego, CA. In particular, this collection reflects the extensive photographic documentation done by Clinton Griffin in San Diego cemeteries. These photographs are primarily digital and stored on CD-R. Photographs of the USS Midway are also digital images stored on CD-R.
