Abstract: Suzan Cooke (b. 1947) is an activist and trans woman. During the 1960s and 1970s, Cooke was active in feminist, gay and lesbian,
and trans movements, including as a staff photographer for Lesbian Tide and a peer counselor at the National Transsexual Counseling
Unit in San Francisco. The collection includes subject files, primarily containing newspaper clippings related to trans individuals;
loose newspaper clippings; and over 20 audio cassettes featuring recordings of parties, informal interviews, conversations,
and television and radio programs, among other content. Cooke received a cassette recorder as a Christmas gift in 1974 and
had an active interest in exploring the uses of this new technology, resulting in a remarkable audio archive of trans and
queer life in the 1970s.
