Abstract: The Raymond Jensen papers, 1943-1945, consist of more than 500 letters written by Raymond Jensen to his wife Doris and other
family members, and from Doris to Raymond, during Raymond's service in the United States Navy during World War II. The letters
provide a picture of life in the military and on the home front during World War II. Raymond Jensen served in the Radio Materials
School on Treasure Island in San Francisco, where he was stationed for the bulk of his time in the service. He spent most
of his time working as an electrician for the Navy, and he, his wife, and growing family lived in Navy housing there.

After completing courses for the Navy's Radio Tech Primary School, Raymond Jensen served in the Radio Materials School on
Treasure Island in San Francisco, where he was stationed for the bulk of his time in the service. He spent most of his time
working as an electrician for the Navy, and he, his wife, and growing family lived in Navy housing there.
The Raymond Jensen papers, 1943-1945, consist of more than 500 letters written by Raymond Jensen to his wife Doris and other
family members, and from Doris to Raymond, during Raymond's service in the United States Navy during World War II. The letters
from Raymond to Doris were written while Raymond was in boot camp in Farragut, Idaho; and stationed in Chicago, and College
Station, Texas all while attending courses to become a radio technician. All of these letters (the bulk of the collection)
date from 1943. The few letters from 1944 and 1945 were written by friends. The letters provide a picture of life in the
military and on the home front during World War II. The letters from Doris provide interesting insights into the roles of
women working during the War and the rationing of goods.
