Scope and content:

This collection contains apparel, memorabilia, and photographs collected by John Martin during his tenure as Volleyball Coach and Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations at the University of San Diego. Apparel includes baseball caps from various sports and events, jerseys, team jackets, and event t-shirts. Memorabilia includes koozies, posters, towels, plaques, certificates, and awards. Photographs and film reel of volleyball games are included.

Biographical / historical:

John Martin began working at the University of San Diego in 1975 as the volleyball coach. He coached the volleyball team to a fourth place finish at the AIAW (Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women) Nationals in 1976. In September 1978 he began also serving as Director of Recreation. Martin continued his position as volleyball coach through 1989. He later became the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Operations. In 2003, Martin was honored for 25 years of service and received an Employee of the Year award.
