Background
Dimitri Tiomkin (1894-1979) was a Russian born American film composer best known for his scores for western films. Tiomkin
received 22 Academy Award nominations and won four Oscars: Best Original Score for High Noon (1952), The High and the Mighty (1954), and The Old Man and the Sea (1958); and Best Original Song for The Ballad of High Noon.
