Newton "Bud" Flounders (1921-2005) was a leading American collector of gay literature and was involved with the Walt Whitman Bookshop in San Francisco, which was owned by his friend Charles Gilman, from the late 1970s to late 1980s. The collection includes photographs of the bookshop, Flounders, Gliman, Sam Steward (Phil Andros), Armistead Maupin and a few reprinted photos of model Eugene Sandow that date from the 1890s. The bulk of the correspondence consists of postcards from historian and book dealer Gerard Koskovich to Flounders. There are also a few letters to Charles Gilman, including one from Barbara Gittings, and an article by Koskovich on the importance of collecting and archiving gay history.
