Historical Background:
The Apostolic Faith Mission of Portland was founded by Florence L Crawford (1872-1936) in Portland, Oregon in 1906.
Crawford was one of the early affiliates of William J. Seymour (1870-1922) and the Azusa Street Revival (1906-1915) in Los
Angeles, California. Seymour appointed Crawford as the state director of the Pacific Coast Apostolic Faith movement some time
between 1906 and their separation in 1911. Crawford’s primary goal with the Portland mission was to assist local missions
and church organizations to join the Apostolic Faith movement. After Crawford’s separation from Seymour, most of the organizations
she worked with continued under her leadership. The mission also gained Clara Lum, editor of the Los Angeles-based publication
The Apostolic Faith, in 1908.
