Patriarch of the lineage is Sakya Trizin, resident at the Sakya Centre, Mussoorie, Uttar Pradesh, India. Teachers active in the United States are: Jetsun Kushola (also known as Jetsunma), sister of the Sakya Trizin; Deshung Rinpoche; and Jigdal Dagchen Sakya Rinpoche, resident in Seattle after 1960. Foundations in North America include Sakya Thegchen Choling, Seattle (founded 1972); the Jetsun Sakya Center, New York City; Sakya Phuntsok Ling, Silver Spring, MD; Sakya Tséshen Thubten Ling, Richmond, B.C.; Thubten Dhondrup Ling, Los Angeles; and Drogön Sakya, Los Angeles, founded by Jetsun Kushola in 1982.
