The Supreme Vidhyadara, Karma Ngawang Chökyi Gyatso Kunga Sangpo, 11th Trungpa Tulku, 1939-1987. Born in Eastern Tibet 1939; he went to Oxford University, England 1963; founded Samye Ling, Scotland, 1967; founded Karmê Choling, Bennett, VT 1970; Vajradhatu, Boulder, CO 1973; Naropa Institute, Boulder, CO 1974. He also founded the Rocky Mountain Dharma Center and the Nalanda Foundation. After his death in 1987, his American pupil Osel Tendzin served as the leader of Vajradhatu for a short time.
