RG 5: Office of Research, Advocacy and Legislation

Biographical / historical:

The Office of Research, Advocacy, and Legislation (formerly known as the National Services Office and then as the Office of Research and Policy Analysis) was established at the Board's direction in 1975. Its primary function is to analyze national public policy issues relating to Hispanic Americans and to conduct basic research on the demographic, social, and economic characteristics of the Chicano and Hispanic communities throughout the United States. With this information, members of the ORAL staff also coordinate NCLR's advocacy efforts.

Access and use

Parent restrictions:
Collection is open for research; material must be requested at least 36 hours in advance of intended use. Personnel files are restricted until 2066. Contract files indicating contractor income are also restricted until 2066. Videotape materials require at least a two-week waiting period between they are requested and when they can be made available, to allow for use copies to be made from the master tapes. Accession 2005-068, 53 cartons, is unavailable until processing is complete. Digital collection is closed until processed.
