Blase Bonpane taught political science and sociology at California State University Northridge (1973-81), was the executive director of the Office of the Americas and the author of many books and articles, chiefly on Central America. The collection consists of correspondence, lectures, sound recordings, journals, and other materials related to Bonpane's work as a peace activist.

Collection consists of correspondence, lectures, sound recordings, journals, and other materials related to Bonpane's work as a peace activist. Many materials focus on U.S. foreign policy and Central America, but some relate to the Vietnam War and the United Farm Workers of America. Includes manuscripts of Bonpane's work and tape recordings of his commentary on radio station KPFK as well as other materials related to his work with the Office of the Americas.

Biographical / historical:

Bonpane earned a BA in philosophy, Maryknoll College, 1953; Master of Religious Education, University of the State of New York, 1958; MA, Latin American studies, Georgetown University, 1967; Ph.D, Social Science Liberation Theology, University of California at Irvine, 1984; regional director of Maryknoll Fathers, 1962-65; taught political science and sociology, California State University Northridge, 1973-81; served on Council of Educational Development, UCLA, 1969-70; director of publications and development for United Farm Workers of America, 1971-73; senior research fellow at Council on Hemispheric Affairs; executive director of the Office of the Americas, Los Angeles; author of many books and articles, chiefly on Central America; frequent radio commentator on KPFK.
