Scope and content:

The collection consists of published articles written by Robert H. Scott as well as a few articles on the topic of juvenile delinquency written by others. Also included in the collection are 2 clippings scrap books.

Biographical / historical:

Robert Harrison Scott was born in Northern Michigan to Alfred James and Annis Brown Scott. In 1903, he moved to Los Angeles with his family, later graduating from Los Angeles High School in 1909. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley graduating in 1915. That same year he was accepted to the California Bar Association and practiced law until enlisting as a lieutenant in the United States Army. After returning from the First World War, he was appointed Deputy Public Defender of Los Angeles County. Scott was then elected as Justice of the peace in 1922, and went on to become a Municipal Court judge two years later. In 1926, Scott was elected to the position of Superior Court Judge, where he split his time between criminal and juvenile court. During this time, he began to devote much of his time and scholarship to the improvement of prevention and discipline of juvenile delinquency.
