Fredericks's collection of photographs, and film and sound recordings document friends and family, and Frederick's plays. Photographic postcards by Carl Van Vechten portray celebrities, artists and writers.
The series includes 233 family photographs dating from ca. 1850-1964, many taken by Fredericks (boxes 41-42) and 1,791 Minox prints taken by Fredericks and dating from 1964 to 1983 (box 43). Other documentation includes photographs from 1916-1983 (boxes 49A and 49B); 16 reels of 8mm film dating from 1935-1940 (box 46); Leica prints of Fredericks in Europe taken by James Merrill, 1950-1951 (box 43); and a portrait photograph of Fredericks taken in 1935 (box 83*).
Approximately 25 photographs document productions of Fredericks's plays, including seven photographs by Evelyn Hofer of The Living Theatre's 1954 production of "The Idiot King" and photographs of productions of "On Circe's Island" and "A Summer Ghost" (boxes 50-51 and oversize box). There are also sound recordings of "A Summer Ghost" and music for "The Idiot King" (boxes 84-86).
Between 1947 and 1950 Carl Van Vechten sent Fredericks and Milton Saul 121 photographic postcards (box 47), made from his own photographs. Some postcards include messages.
Audio/visual materials have been reformatted.
