The collection consists of 2816 pamphlets and books on twentieth century socialist and labor movements around the world, with particular emphasis on communist, socialist, and collectivist political parties and organizations in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, United Kingdom, and United States of America. Major subjects include the Russian Revolution, the rise of fascism, World Wars I and II, colonial revolutions, Marxist theory, the Cold War, and labor unions and workers' rights. Prominent authors include Earl Browder, Daniel De Leon, Eugene Dennis, Friedrich Engels, William Z. Foster, Nikita Khrushchev, Vladimir Lenin, Vyacheslav Molotov, Scott Nearing, Harry Pollitt, Joseph Stalin, Norman Thomas, and Leon Trotsky, and other significant socialist theorists, leaders, and organizations. Notable items include 30 illustrated Soviet pamphlets distributed at the 1939 New York World's Fair, a large number of texts by publishers Twentieth Century Press and Clarion Press in England, and Charles H. Kerr & Co., Appeal to reason, and the IWW in the United States.
