Creators:
Gladding, McBean and Company
Extent:
1 album (42 photographic prints)
Scope and content:

Gladding, McBean and Company manufactured vitirfied sewer pipe, architectural terra cotta, and roof tile.

Album contains commercial views of various San Francisco buildings damaged by the 1906 earthquake and fire. Among the buildings pictured are the Mills Buiding, San Francisco Gas & Electric Co., Aronson Building, Hale Bros. department store, San Francisco Savings and German Savings, Fairmont Hotel, Spring Valley Water Co., U.S. Post Office, Mutual Savings, Call Building, Flood Building, St. Ignatius Church and College, U.S. Mint, Gladding McBean & Co.'s warehouse, Palace Hotel, Shreve Building, Hotel St. Francis, Majestic Theatre, Tivoli Opera House, and Chronicle Building. While most views are exteriors, several interiors are also included. Although most views are of general interest, and none is captioned to reveal illustration of any technical details, one might expect an emphasis upon damage to terra cotta, a specialty of Gladding McBean. Many of the photographs were taken by R.J. Waters & Co.
