Scope and content:

Charles M. Wollenberg served as chief civilian aide for earthquake relief following the disaster of 1906. He later served with the Red Cross in the establishment of Camp Ingleside, and later as relief home superintendent and Director of Institutions for the city of San Francisco, and California.

Albums 4-6, relating to the Relief Home of the Aged & Infirm, the 1918 influenza epidemic, and the Laguna Honda Relief home have not been listed to the item level in the present finding aid.

Albums compiled and photographed, in part, by Charles M. Wollenberg. Contains professional photographs and snapshots of San Francisco relief efforts in the early years of the 20th century. Includes -- v.1: 1906 earthquake and fire refugee camps in Golden Gate Park -- v.2: Relief Home of the Aged & Infirm in 1908, refugee camps in 1906 (including Camp Ingleside), and Ferry Building reconstruction(?) -- v.3: 1906 earthquake and fire refugee camps in various parts of San Francisco -- v.4: Relief Home of the Aged & Infirm, Camp Ingleside, and the building of the Laguna Honda Relief Home -- 5: a 1918 influenza epidemic emergency hospital converted from temporary city offices at the Civic Center, with patients and staff -- 6: interior and exterior views of the Laguna Honda Home for Aged and Infirm, completed 1927-1928. Includes wards, clinic, dining hall, kitchens and other facilities, as well as residents and staff.
