The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire Digital Collection
Photographs from Harold Wellman Fairbanks, 1906?
- Extent:
- 79 items
- Scope and content:
-
Images submitted to the State Earthquake Investigation Commission by Harold Wellman Fairbanks. Presumably, they were photographed by him or under his direction. Photographs document geological activity to the south of the San Francisco Bay Area, from Santa Cruz and Monterey counties to San Bernardino and San Diego counties. Some or all of these images may have been taken before the April 1906 earthquake, such as the views of the Carrizo Plain, which Fairbanks visited with A.C. Lawson in January of 1906. Fairbanks' research contributed substantially to the identification of the San Andreas Fault and its extent.
