The Music Center of Los Angeles County opened when the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion raised its curtain for the first time on December 6, 1964 with Zubin Mehta conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic with soloist Jascha Heifetz. Construction began on the Pavilion on March 9, 1962 and the site was dedicated on September 27, 1964. The Pavilion has hosted opera performances, dance presentations, and the Academy Awards.
