This series consists of documents created and accumulated by Martin Anderson while serving as an economic advisor to Pete Wilson during Pete Wilson's governorship (1991-1999) and 1996 presidential primary race. The documents span the years 1968 to 1998, with the bulk created between 1993 and 1998, which are the years Anderson was a member of Wilson's Council of Economic Advisers.
Documents include internal memorandums, policy documents, speeches, correspondence, notes, travel documents, campaign schedules, and printed matter. Policy documents (drafts and final versions) pertain to economic policy produced by and for the Governor's Council of Economic Advisors, the California Tax Reform Committee, and Pete Wilson's presidential primary campaign. Speeches (drafts and final versions) consist of question/answer scripts prepared for Pete Wilson and speeches given by Martin Anderson. Notes by Martin Anderson and Annelise Anderson pertain to California's economic policies, campaign economic policies, and general planning. Travel documents include plane tickets and travel schedules for Martin Anderson. Printed matter consists primarily of newspaper articles (copies and clippings) and magazine articles. Major correspondents include Michael Boskin, George Shultz, Bob White, James C. Dobson, Reed Hastings, and Lee Grissom.
Of note, the series includes the following items of interest: a small quantity of letters from Pete Wilson to Martin Anderson and Annelise Anderson; numerous memorandums addressed to Governor Pete Wilson from Martin Anderson, Michael Boskin, George Shultz, and Bob White; remarks made by Governor Pete Wilson at prayer breakfasts; and notes taken by Pete Wilson during a speech given by Martin Anderson.
