The office of Fraternity & Sorority Life provides education opportunities to students through new member seminars, leadership retreats, and specialized workshops. Education opportunities involve the career center, health services, public affairs, police, academic advising, and many more other campus resources. Cal Poly’s Fraternity and Sorority Life promotes student success through scholarship, service, leadership, and brotherhood/sisterhood. There are over 3,500 students involved in 36 affiliated Greek-lettered organizations. These organizations are governed by three councils: the Interfraternity Council (IFC), United Sorority & Fraternity Council (USFC), and the Panhellenic Council (PHA). Chi Sigma Phi was established at Cal Poly in 1948 with nine charter members. The first pledge class consisted of nine members in 1949.
