Abstract:

Photograph album documenting activities of Star Riders Motorcycle Club, an organization of African American motorcycle enthusiasts based in Los Angeles, chiefly during the 1950s. Topics include group rides and races; club members posing with their motorcycles; dances, parties and other leisure events; and informal individual and group portraits. Many images depict club members in their uniforms. Several women members of the club are depicted throughout the collection. Members of other motorcycle clubs are also likely depicted. Automobiles are the subject of many images. Album possibly compiled by George Cardwell, an automobile mechanic who appears in numerous images.
