Starr King Lodge was chartered in 1902, as a subordinate lodge of the Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, of California.
It had seventy founding members. Over the years, many Jews have belonged to it. One of its members, Charles M. Wollenberg,
became Grand Master of Masons for the State of California.
