Shivtei Shalom was founded in 1982, in Eugene, Or. to create a land-based, rural Jewish community, camp, and retreat center. In 1983, it established Moshav Shivtei Shalom (Tribes of Peace) in Dorena, Or., an organization based on a Jewish spiritual path and which embraced a variety of Jewish practices. It also supported Jewish arts and education, encouraged a creative religious expression and an interfaith dialogue, and organized a Jewish Women's Spiritual Convocation (1985), the Joys of Jewishing Camp (1985), mobility international programs, and numerous holiday retreats, fairs, and Shabbaton. It disbanded in 1986.
