Lamoureux, Laura Josephine.

Abstract:

Four letters (10 p.) from a "Hindu student" to a fellow student at the University of California, Berkeley. Mitra seems to be infatuated with Miss Lamoureux, repeatedly asking to call her "sister." The letters include details of his life in Bengal, India, where he married against his family's wishes, tried to propagate a "boycott of British goods," was disinherited by his father for his political views, and was harrassed by the police and compelled to leave India. He also writes of the circumstances that led him to the University of California and his feelings about campus attitudes towards "foreigners."
