Abstract:

Professional photographs depicting Stackpole's figurative sculpture at the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Francisco; a detail of one of his murals in Coit Tower; and an abstract sculpture ("Stone for a furn [sic] forest") in Chauriat, France. Also includes snapshots of Stackpole inspecting one of his sculptures in a garden; Stackpole enjoying cocktails with two unidentified lady friends; and a Stackpole piece decorating the fireplace of the Los Gatos residence of Charles Ereskine Scott Wood. Postcard depicts detail of Coit Tower mural.

Born in Williams, Oregon, 1885. Co-founder, in 1913, of California Society of Etchers. A leading San Francisco artist of the 1920s and 1930s. Worked at famed studio in the Montgomery Block. Taught at California School of Fine Arts. Major works includes sculpture for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the Pacific Stock Exchange, Oakland's Paramount Theatre, and the Golden Gate International Exposition; and mural paintings for Coit Tower. Father of photographer Peter Stackpole. Died in Chauriat, France, 1973.
