Abstract:

Selections from 3 series, designated by the photographer as Pismo Beach portraits, Central Coast beach landscapes and Central Coast agricultural landscapes. Portraits depict tourists and local visitors to a weekly Pismo Beach art and craft fair, where the photographer regularly operated a portrait photography souvenir stand from 1982 to 1985. A smaller number of photographs, covering a wider range of the Central Coast and adjacent inland areas, depict beach scenes and other coastal views; livestock; vineyards; and other scenes of farming and agriculture.

Davis lived in Oceano, Calif. from 1982 to 1985, operating a portrait photography stand at a weekly arts and crafts fair in nearby downtown Pismo Beach. He later moved to Nevada, where he has continued to practice documentary photography. His archive is owned by the University of Nevada, Reno.
