Nahum Seitzick (1879-1972) was born in Josefdorf, Russia. He helped establish a few synagogues in the East Bay of California, and he played a role in creating Berkeley's congregation Beth-El. He was the first president of that congregation's senior citizens group and was named an honorary trustee of the whole congregation. Seitzick's daughter, Beatrice Seitzick Schiffman (1913-2003), was a president of the Berkeley chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) in the 1950s.
