Abstract:

Contains handwritten and printed correspondence, speeches, dedications, poems, reviews, song sheets, etc. One of the letters (18 p.), dated May 6, 1878, contains an extensive autobiographical account of Upham's life including his family history, his brief time as a gold miner, and his eventual career as a journalist. Song sheets include a copy of "Evangel Hymns for Church Choirs, Sunday-Schools, Revival, Praise, and Camp Meetings," edited by Samuel C. Upham, along with several others. Also includes the published poem, "Ye Ancient Yuba Miner of the Days of '49." Also includes one scrapbook of various ephemera, correspondence, clippings, meeting ephemera from the Associated Pioneers of the Territorial Days in California, and other related material.
