Abstract:

Three holograph letters written and signed by Stewart L. Woodford and one typed letter signed by him. The first letter, dated May 22, 1873 and written on official stationery of the Law Offices of [Wm. Henry] Arnoux, [Thomas G.] Ritch and Woodford at 271 Broadway, New York, is to Mr. H. Storm of 62 West Washington Place about his favor of the fifteenth. Woodford informs him that he has only been Lieutenant Governor and thereby President of State Senate from January 1st, 1867 to January 1869 and apologizes for the delay in answering the note. The second letter, dated August 26th, 1876 and written on official stationery of the Law Offices of Arnoux, Ritch and Woodford at 271 Broadway, New York, is to Mr. Charles J. Chapman of 11 Moulton Street, Portland, Maine about his invitation to speak in Portland. The letter states that he has written to Mr. Pullen of the Press that he could be in Portland on Wednesday, Sept.
7th, then he must be in New London, Connecticut early Friday morning Sept. 8th [Sept. 9th] to take the boat for Greenport, Long Island at 9 am. If he can speak for Chapman on Thursday afternoon and get to New London in time the next morning, he will do so. The third letter, dated September 11, 1884 and written on official stationery of Arnoux, Ritch & Woodford at 18 Wall Street, New York, is to General C. W. Darling in Silver Lake, Brandon, Vermont about receiving Darling's invitation to Silver Lake upon his return from Lake George, [New York] and missing the pleasure of seeing Darling because Col. Sprague can only drive him there from Brandon on the day that he has to be in Woodstock, [New York]. At the top of the letter are the names Haley Fiske, C. N. Bovee, Jr. and Wm. C. Wallace. The fourth letter, dated May 18, 1898 and typed on official stationery of Ritch, Woodford, Bovee & Wallace at 18 Wall Street, New York, is to Mr. Walter Scott, Jr.
Of 487 Broadway, New York to thank him for his telegram which was received at the Union League Club on Saturday night. At the top of the letter are the names David F. Butcher and Charles L. Foster.
