Abstract:

Diaries and typed transcriptions of diaries (1882-1889) of Lucy Elizabeth Ward Stebbins, wife of Reverend Horatio Stebbins, a founder of the University of California; books and memorabilia associated with Lucy Ward Stebbins, Dean of Women at the University of California from 1912 to 1941; other items relating to the University of California; and a scrapbook and some books belonging to Lucy Ward Stebbins. Also includes a scrapbook kept by Horatio Ward Stebbins about the Spanish-American War. The scrapbook includes mostly clippings but does container two letters dating from 1898 and 1899 from soldiers to Stebbins. One is from William Rufus Shafter and the other is from Whitelaw Reid. Also included is a scroll presented to Horatio Ward Stebbins in 1898 on the 20th anniversary of his appointment as minister.
