Karen Newman, scholar of Shakespeare and modern literature, received her B.A. from Randolph-Macon Women's College in 1970 and her Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley in 1978. At the time she donated her papers, Newman was teaching Comparative Literature and English at Brown University.
