Abstract:

One holograph letter written and signed by J. W. Ripley in Augusta, Maine to Mr. Bond and Sons, watchmakers in Boston, to ask that they deliver a watch to Mr. James Baker. Two telegrams written on official stationery of the Western Union Telegraph Company to Gov. O. P. Morton, the 14th Governor of Indiana. The first telegram, sent from St. Louis on behalf of D. G. Rose, is about the Davis and Pattersons Regiments being ordered to Jefferson City and the guns that Morton sent would be forwarded to the Davis Regiment because they are superior to the French guns. The second telegram, sent from Washington on behalf of Brigadier General J. W. Ripley, is about the Assistant Secretary of War not knowing the amount of available ordinance when he telegraphed Morton, thus, Morton's order must be postponed until more supplies are available and more urgent demands have been met.
