Abstract:

Album of 271 black and white photographs and other ephemera put together by Jesse Bottomley while on a West Indies and Panama Canal cruise on the S. S. Haiti from August 20 to September 7, 1936. Some are professional/commercial photos and remainder are snapshots by Bottomley, with handwritten captions in English. Locations include New York City; Port au Prince and Kenskoff (Haiti); Kingston (Jamaica); Porto Columbo, Baranquilla, and Cartagena (Colombia); Panama City and Panama Canal. Also contains snapshots from trips to New York, Quebec, Washington, D.C. and Virginia in 1937. Photographs feature passengers and staff on ship; shipboard, street, and scenic views; native peoples. Maps, advertisements, and other related ephemera included.
