Abstract:
Photographs, family papers, and books collected by the Iwamoto family between approximately 1930 and 1996. Photographs show
family members and family activities, including mushroom hunting and travels to Japan and other locales; also includes aerial
photographs of Tule Lake Relocation Center. Family papers include genealogical research, a small selection of letters, holiday
cards, and ephemera. There are letters and paperwork collected by Louise Akiye and Paul Tadashi Iwamoto and labeled "Official
Verification Papers of Internment for Paul and Louise" including a Voluntary Information Form completed in compliance with
the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, which provided reparations for formerly incarcerated Japanese American. During World War
II Louise Akiye was incarcerated at Heart Mountain Relocation Center (Wyoming) and Paul Tadashi Iwamoto was incarcerated in
Santa Anita Assembly Center, Gila River War Relocation Center, and Tule Lake Relocation Center (California). Collection also
includes Tadashi's yearbook from Washington High School (Los Angeles), and commemorative books including, "Skyways Lumbini:
Published Annually by the Members of the Southern California District Young Men and Women's Buddhist Association," "Hollywood
Gakuen Japanese Language School," "Hiroshima Kenjin-Kai of Southern California," and "Hollywood Japanese Cultural Institute
40th Anniversay." Also includes a book of photography, "One More Shot" by Jack Iwata which documents Japanese-Americans in
the 20th century.
