Yemen was formerly divided between Great Britain and Turkey as the British Protectorate of Aden and the Turkish province of
Yemen. A boundary commission was established in 1901 to decide the disputed border between the two territories. Britain sent
British and Indian troops to reinforce the region until the commission made its final decision in 1904. During this time there
were many skirmishes between British and Turkish troops, resulting in approximately 70 related casualties.
