Abstract:
Photoprints, negatives and a few postcards encompassing many Pacific state locations. Alaska: includes two panoramas mounted
on cloth, many photographs of Alaskan scenes, mining sites and glaciers. Many photos related to the Harriman Alaska Expedition
of 1899 including expedition equipment are also present. Many Alaskan Indians are pictured (villages, inhabitants) as well
as examples of totem poles. Also present is a portrait captioned "old man John, Clickatat Chief [sic] around 90 years old"
by Joseph Buchtel of Portland, Oregon. Alaskan locations include Fort Wrangle, Howkan, and Yukon. Includes two multi-plate
panoramas of Alaskan glaciers. Other west coast locations include British Columbia (Canada), Washington state, Crater Lake
(Oregon?), and various California locations (Bodega Bay, Mono Lake, Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the San Gabriel River). Photos
of San Diego include biplanes in formation (1918) and mission views. A few photos of John Muir are also present, as well as
1 photographic reproduction of a painted portrait of E.W. Scripps.
