The Vanguard Public Foundation was founded in 1972 as a source of grants for non-profit organizations involved in progressive
social movements, community organizing, and policy advocacy. The foundation was dissolved in 2011 after losing its non-profit
status for failure to file tax returns. Samuel "Mouli" Cohen and Hari Jamil Dillon were convicted of fraud and money laundering.
The Vanguard Justice Community Council has sought to educate the philanthropical community about the importance of exercising
due diligence in financial affairs.
