Scope and Content
Transcripts and tapes of sixteen interviews conducted during July-August 1985 documenting events on the University of California,
Berkeley, campus in April-May 1985 and administrative response to student activities protesting university policy on investments
in South Africa.
The interviews were conducted by Gabrielle Morris and Julie Sherer of the Regional Oral History Office, at the request of
and underwritten by the Berkeley's Office of the Chancellor.
Interviewees include Ira Michael Heyman, chancellor, Watson M. Laetsch, Roderic B. Park, and Ronald W. Wright, vice-chancellors,
Richard P. Haffner, public affairs officer, John Cummins and Michael R. Smith, chancellor's staff, Patrick Hayashi and B.
Thomas Travers, undergraduate affaris, Mary F. Jacobs, Hal Reynolds and Michelle Woods, student affairs, and Derry Bowles,
William Foley, Joseph Johnson and Ellen R. Stetson, campus police.
The collection also includes supporting documents, including ephemera, leaflets and news accounts of the protests.
