Abstract: Hans Dreier (1885-1966) was a set designer and art director at Famous Players-Lasky-Paramount and eventually became head of
Paramount's art department. He received Academy Awards for
Frenchmen's Creek (1944),
Samson and Delilah (1949), and
Sunset Boulevard (1950). The collection consists of photographs of motion picture sets as well as charcoal, watercolor, and pen and ink sketches
by Dreier and his staff.

Biography
Dreier was born August 21, 1885 in Bremen, Germany; was a student of architecture and a practicing architect in South Africa;
he began his film career in 1919 at Universum Film Aktien Gesellschaft (UFA) in Berlin; moved to the U.S. in 1923 to join
Famous Players-Lasky-Paramount and eventually became head of Paramount's art department, where he spent the rest of his career;
he worked with directors such as Josef von Sternberg, Ernst Lubitsch, Rouben Mamoulian, King Vidor, Billy Wilder, and Cecil
B. DeMille; received Academy Awards for
Frenchmen's Creek (1944),
Samson and Delilah (1949), and
Sunset Boulevard (1950); retired, 1951; died in 1966.

picture sets as well as charcoal, watercolor, and pen and ink sketches by Dreier and his staff.
